Police discover cache of ammunition in Anambra


The Police on Tuesday uncovered a cache of ammunition buried at a construction site at Umuowelle, Agulu in Anaocha council area of Anambra State.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Nkeiru Nwode, said the ammunition were unearthed by some labourers who were digging the foundation of the building .
Nwode said the workers reported to Neni Police Division which went to the place and cordoned it off.
She said the discovery which was in different sizes and calibers was worth millions of the naira.
She said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Sam Kaula led a team of officers to site to supervise the evacuation of the ammunition.
She said “The Police this morning discovered a large quantity of ammunition at a parcel of land where building work was going on at Umuowelle, Agulu in Anaocha.
“Some labourers at the site struck at the ammunition and reported to the nearest Police division and this morning, the Commissioner was there to personally see things for himself.
“The ammunition are large, and is worth millions of Naira, investigation is still on and soon we shall get to the roots of this”.
She said the parcel of land belonged to an unidentified man who lived in Enugu.
Nwode said no arrests had been made while the ammunition had had been sent to the appropriate units for determination of their calibres.
She urged the people in the area to remain calm as the police were on top of the situation.
